What is the purpose of the EGR system and EGR Valve on Ford Crown Victoria?

The EGR system reduces NOx emissions with two different systems. The Electronic Exhaust Gas Recirculation and the Pressure Feedback EGR. The EGR valve is controlled by a solenoid and the PCM. To check, perform a leakage test and clean the ports. The system uses an Electronic Vacuum Regulator to control exhaust gas flow. Check the voltage and resistance of the regulator and the EGR valve position sensor and replace it or regulator if needed.
