  A: First of all, to replace the water pump, you should start by disconnecting the battery followed by draining the cooling system. The air duct is removed, pulley bolts are loosened, and the drivebelt and pulley are taken off. Remove thermostat housing and bolts in reverse order. For a 4.0L engine, take out hoses as well as mounting bolts to separate the pump. However, in the case of V8 engines, remove the mounting bolts and pump. On the other hand, 5.0L engines simply require removal of housing, hose disconnection and surface cleaning before installation of the new part.
