Remove the air filter box cover attaching screws or unclip the cover. Lift the cover up and remove the air filter, noting how it's installed. Clean out the air filter box and install the new filter element. Remove the hose clamp(s) securing the air intake tube(s) at the air filter box cover. Pull the tube(s) free of the air filter box cover. Remove the crankcase fresh air hose, if equipped, from the air filter box. Detach the fresh air intake duct from the air filter box. Remove the fasteners securing the air filter box to its mounting bracket and remove the box. Installation is the reverse of removal.

Q:
How to inspect and replace the air filter in a preventative maintenance program on Ford F-250? Posted by Customer
A:
At the specified intervals, the air filter should be replaced with a new one. A thorough program of preventative maintenance would call for the filter to be inspected periodically between changes. The air filter is located inside the air cleaner housing on the top of the engine. To remove the filter, unscrew the wing nut at the top of the air cleaner and lift off the top plate. If the top plate is connected to emissions control devices, tilt it back far enough to allow access to the filter element. While the top plate is off, be careful not to drop anything down into the carburetor. Lift the air filter out of the housing. To check the filter, hold it up to strong sunlight, or place a flashlight or drop light on the inside of the ring-shaped filter. If you can see light coming through the paper element, the filter is all right. Check all the way around the filter. Wipe the inside of the air cleaner housing with a rag. Be careful not to drop any debris down the carburetor. Place the old filter (if in good condition) or the new filter (if specified interval has elapsed) back into the air cleaner housing. Make sure it seats properly in the bottom of the housing. Reinstall the top plate with the wing nut.

Q:
How to replace the air filter and PCV filter element in a Lincoln Town Car? Posted by Customer
A:
At the specified intervals, the air filter, and on models so equipped, the PCV filter element should be replaced. For carbureted models, the filter is located on top of the carburetor and is replaced by unscrewing the wing nut from the top of the filter housing and lifting off the cover. While the top plate is off, be careful not to drop anything down into the carburetor. Lift the air filter element out of the housing and wipe out the inside of the air cleaner housing with a clean rag. Place the new filter element in the air cleaner housing, ensuring it seats properly in the bottom of the housing. On models equipped with a PCV filter element in the air cleaner housing, pull out the old filter and replace it with a new one. For fuel-injected models, detach the clips and lift the cover off the filter housing. Remove the filter element and wipe the inside of the air cleaner housing with a clean cloth. Place the new air filter element in the housing, ensuring that if the element is marked TOP, the marked side faces up. Seat the tabs, rotate the cover into place and secure it with the clips.
