Q:
How do you remove sealed beam headlights on Ford Bronco II? Posted by Customer
A:
To remove sealed beam headlights, start by removing the headlight retaining ring screws and then remove the retaining ring, being careful not to disturb the adjusting screw settings. Pull the headlight bulb forward and disconnect the wiring assembly plug from the bulb. To install a new bulb, connect the wiring assembly plug to the new bulb and place the bulb in position, ensuring the locating tabs of the bulb are fitted in the positioning slots. Install the headlight retaining ring and secure it in place with the retaining screws. Finally, place the headlight trim ring into position and install the retaining screws. For composite-type headlights, begin by opening the vehicle's hood and securing it in an upright position. If necessary, open the bulb access panel by depressing the latch and lifting it. Unfasten the locking ring that secures the bulb and wire harness plug assembly, and then withdraw the assembly rearward. Disconnect the electrical wire harness plug from the bulb and remove the locking ring. To install a new headlight bulb, first ensure that all electrical contact surfaces are clean. Install the locking ring onto the bulb and align the replacement headlight bulb with the harness plug. Firmly push the bulb onto the plug until the spring clip latches over the bulb's projection. Position the headlight bulb and secure it with the locking ring. Test the replacement bulb to ensure it functions correctly by activating the switch to illuminate the bulb. Close the bulb access panel and the vehicle's hood. To aim the headlights, park the vehicle on a level surface, with the fuel tank about half full and no extra cargo. The vehicle should be facing a wall at least 6 feet high and 12 feet wide, positioned approximately 25 feet from the wall. Turn the headlights on and mark the wall at the center of each light's low and high beam. If both beams on one side are not working, use another like-sized vehicle to mark the beams and switch the vehicles to aim the headlights correctly. Make any necessary repairs and adjust the beams to match the marks on the wall. It's advisable to have the headlight adjustment checked by a reputable repair shop as a final step.
