Q:
What steps are involved in the removal of shock absorbers for the 2006 Ford Crown Victoria, and what additional components are addressed in this process? Posted by Customer
A:
For 2003 and later models, remove the three shock absorber upper mounting nuts, the brake caliper, and the brake disc. Additionally, remove the upper and lower stabilizer bar links. Remove the upper balljoint nut and separate the control arm from the steering knuckle. Finally, remove the lower mounting bolt and the shock absorber/coil spring assembly from the front end of the vehicle.

Q:
How should the shock absorbers be inspected for leaks, and what should be done if leakage is observed for the 2005 Ford Crown Victoria? Posted by Customer
A:
Raise the vehicle, support it securely on jackstands, and check the shock absorbers for evidence of fluid leakage. A light film of fluid is generally not a concern. If leakage is noted, replace the shocks as a set.

Q:
What key considerations should be kept in mind during the installation process, particularly for the 2011 Mercury Grand Marquis? Posted by Customer
A:
During installation, ensure all air is expelled from a new shock absorber (for 2002 and earlier models), install all bushings and grommets in the order of removal, and use 5116-18 locknuts on the self-tapping bolts if the threads in the lower control arm are stripped or damaged. Tighten all fasteners to the specified torque, with locknuts torqued to the same specification as the bolts.
