Q:
How to replace an air spring in a Ford Crown Victoria? Posted by Customer
A:
Turn the air suspension switch to Off. Loosen the wheel lug nuts, raise the rear of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands, then remove the wheel. Remove the heat shield and the spring retainer clip. To remove the air spring solenoid, unplug the electrical connector and disconnect the air line, remove the solenoid clip, rotate the solenoid counterclockwise to the first stop, slowly pull the solenoid straight out to the second stop to allow any residual air to bleed from the system, and after all air is bled from the system, rotate the solenoid counterclockwise to the third stop and remove the solenoid from the housing. Using a prybar, dislodge the air spring from the lower spring seat, and remove the spring. Position the spring between the frame seat and the axle, then carefully pry it into place. To install the air spring solenoid, inspect the solenoid O-rings for cracks and tears, replace as necessary, and be sure to apply a light coat of silicone dielectric grease to the O-rings. Insert the solenoid into the air spring end cap and rotate it clockwise to the third stop, push it into the second stop, then rotate it clockwise to the first stop. Install the solenoid clip. Taking care to protect the open air and electrical connection at the solenoid, install the air spring into the frame seat. From the upper side of the frame, install the push-on spring retainer clip. Connect the air line and plug in the electrical connector. Install the heat shield. Align the lower end of the air spring piston with the axle seat. Squeezing the spring to increase pressure, push down on the piston, snapping the piston into the axle seat at rebound. Install the wheel, remove the jackstands and lower the vehicle until the wheels are on the ground. Then lower the jack a little further, but do not fully lower the vehicle until the air springs have been partially innated. Turn the air suspension switch to On. Turn the ignition key to On, but don't start the vehicle. Allow the air springs to partially innated. Lower the vehicle all the way and allow the springs to fully innated. Tighten the wheel lug nuts to the torque.

Q:
How do you remove the air spring on Lincoln Town Car? Posted by Customer
A:
To remove the air spring, start by turning off the air suspension switch and loosening the wheel lug nuts. Then, raise the rear of the vehicle and secure it on jackstands. Remove the wheel and heat shield. Take out the spring retainer clip and proceed to remove the air spring solenoid by unplugging the electrical connector and disconnecting the air line. Remove the solenoid clip and rotate the solenoid counterclockwise to the first stop, then pull it out to the second stop to release any residual air. After bleeding the air, rotate the solenoid counterclockwise to the third stop and remove it from the housing. To remove the spring, use an air spring removal tool or an equivalent tool to pry it off the axle tube and spring seat. For installation, position the spring between the frame seat and the axle and carefully push it into place. Install the air spring solenoid by applying a light coat of silicone dielectric grease to the O-rings and inserting it into the air spring end cap, rotating it clockwise to the third stop, then pushing it to the second stop, and finally rotating it to the first stop. Install the solenoid clip. Place the air spring into the frame seat, install the push-on spring retainer clip, and reconnect the air line and electrical connector. Install the heat shield. Align the lower end of the air spring piston with the axle seat, push down on the piston to snap it into the axle seat at rebound. Install the wheel and lug nuts, lower the vehicle, and partially inflate the air springs by turning on the air suspension switch and the ignition key. Finally, fully lower the vehicle and allow the springs to fully inflate before tightening the wheel lug nuts to the specified torque.
