Ford Excursion A/C Condenser Parts Questions & Answers

  • Q: How to remove and reinstall an air conditioning condenser on Ford Excursion?
A: Have the air conditioning system discharged. Remove the radiator cover. On diesel models, disconnect and set aside the horn. Disconnect the refrigerant inlet and outlet lines from the condenser. Remove this plastic shield to access the refrigerant line fittings at the condenser. To disconnect the refrigerant inlet and outlet lines from the condenser, remove the nuts. Remove and discard the old O-rings. Remove the hood latch from the crossmember. On later models, disconnect the hood release cable from the power steering fluid cooler, then unbolt and set aside the power steering fluid cooler. Remove the left and right condenser mounting bracket bolts. To detach the left condenser mounting bracket from the crossmember, remove the bolt. To detach the right condenser mounting bracket from the crossmember, remove the bolt. Remove the condenser. If you're going to reinstall the same condenser, store it with the line fittings facing up to prevent oil from draining out. If you're going to install a new condenser, pour one ounce of refrigerant oil of the correct type into it prior to installation. Before reconnecting the refrigerant lines to the condenser, be sure to coat a pair of new O-rings with refrigerant oil, install them in the refrigerant line fittings and then tighten the condenser inlet and outlet nuts to the torque. Installation is otherwise the reverse of removal. Have the system evacuated, recharged and leak tested by the shop that discharged it.
