Ford Explorer Sport Trac Clutch Master Cylinder Parts Questions & Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install a clutch master cylinder on Ford Explorer Sport Trac?
A: When removing the clutch master cylinder, you should first disconnect the negative cable from the battery then remove the spring clip or retainer bushing, next separate the pushrod from the clutch pedal, remove the clutch/starter interlock switch, and disconnect the hydraulic line into the slave cylinder. There are bolts in the engine compartment that secure the clutch master cylinder reservoir and the master cylinder itself. Also, on 2001 and later models remove the left fender well liner. At last to install position the push rod properly on the clutch pedal, fix a new bushing properly, attach the reservoir to a firewall, connect the hydraulic line together with connecting it to the pushrod onto the clutch pedal, and install a clip or retainer bushing afterwards place clutch/starter interlock switch before reconnecting negative cable then fill reservoir with DOT 3 brake fluid and bleed clutch system.
