Ford Explorer Sport Trac Idle Control Valve Parts Questions & Answers

  • Q: How to check and replace the Idle Control Valve on Ford Explorer Sport Trac?
A: Do not clean the inside of the throttle body on these models as doing so can affect the engine performance. For cases related to idle fluctuation, stalling and high idling check this Idle Control Valve (ICV). The voltage signal should be checked and the resistance measured to confirm that the system is functioning normally. In case it has a clogged pintle and valve housing, you need to clean it up. If the ICV needs replacement, unplug the connector, remove the snow shield, remove valve assembly screws, replace the O-ring (if needed), clean surfaces, install a new O-ring, tighten the valve then reconnect the connector.
