Ford Ranger Heater Core Parts Questions & Answers

  • Q: How does the heater in a 1993-2011 Ford Ranger work?
A: Located in the passenger compartment is a small Radiator called the heater core and the engine heater circulates coolants. At first, air enters via an opening in the cowl and then it's blown through a Blower Motor and over should be going through heater core in order to take up some heat. The air warmed is mixed with different amounts of unwarmed air that makes it to control the temperature. Finally, warm air is forced into the passenger compartment. Airflow between floor vents, instrument panel louvers, and defroster openings is controlled by various doors in the heater.
  • Q: How to replace a heater core in a 1993-2011 Ford Ranger?
A: Allow the cooling system to completely cool down. Using a thick cloth for protection, turn the radiator filler cap to the first stop. Step back and let the pressure release. Once the pressure has been released, completely drain the cooling system. Working within the engine compartment, loosen the clamps on the heater hoses at the engine compartment side of the firewall. Disconnect the heater hoses from the fittings at the firewall. Twist the hoses and carefully separate them from the heater core tubes. Plug or cap the heater core tubes to prevent coolant from spilling into the passenger compartment when the heater core is removed. Place a plastic sheet on the floor of the vehicle to prevent stains if the coolant spills. For 1993 and 1994 models, working in the passenger compartment, remove the four screws securing the heater core access cover to the plenum assembly. Carefully pull the heater core to the rear and down and remove it from the plenum assembly. For 1995 and later models, on 2011 models, remove the air conditioning Evaporator. Remove the instrument panel. On 2001 and later models, remove the PCM, the PCM heat sink and ground strap. Remove the heater plenum chamber. Remove the heater core cover, if equipped. Separate the heater core from the heater plenum chamber. Installation is the reverse of removal, with the following additions: Fill the cooling system. Run the engine, check for leaks and test the heater.
  • Q: How to replace a heater core in a 2000-2011 Ford Ranger?
A: First of all, let the cooling system cool down. Open the radiator filler cap to release pressure and drain the system. Loosen clamps on heater hoses and disconnect them from the firewall. Plug or cap the heater core tubes. Place a plastic sheet on the floor. Remove all necessary components and the heater core itself. Installation is done in reverse of the removal procedure. Once again, fill the cooling system, check for leaks, and test the heater.
  • Q: How does the heater in a 2000-2011 Ford Ranger work?
A: The heater, which is the engine coolant circulation, is used to warm the passenger compartment. The air flows through an opening in the cowl and then a Blower Motor forces it through the heater core where heat is absorbed. This air is mixed with varying amounts of unheated air. Thus, heating air enters compartment for passengers which is also blown into them. Finally, there are some doors in the heating system that affects floor airflow and what comes out of the defroster outlets and instrument panel louvers.
