Q: How to remove and install the instrument cluster in a Mercury Cougar?
A: Disconnect the negative battery cable. Remove the instrument cluster bezel. Remove the four instrument cluster retaining screws. Pull the cluster out and unplug the electrical connectors. On super-charged models, disconnect the boost gauge vacuum hose. Swing the bottom of the cluster out to clear the top of the steering column cover and remove it from the instrument panel. Remove the screws, rotate the bottom edge clear of the steering column, then pull the cluster out of the instrument panel. Installation is the reverse of removal.
