Q: How to replace an air spring in a Ford Crown Victoria?
A: Turn off the air suspension switch. Loosen lug nuts, raise rear of vehicle and support securely on jackstands, remove wheel. Remove heat shield and spring retainer clip. To remove air spring solenoid, unplug electrical connector and disconnect air line, remove solenoid clip, rotate solenoid counterclockwise to first stop, pull solenoid straight out to second stop to bleed air, rotate solenoid counterclockwise to third stop and remove from housing. Use prybar to dislodge air spring from lower spring seat, remove spring. Position spring between frame seat and axle, pry into place. To install solenoid, inspect O-rings for damage, replace if necessary, apply silicone dielectric grease to O-rings. Insert solenoid into air spring end cap, rotate clockwise to third stop, push into second stop, rotate clockwise to first stop. Install solenoid clip. Install air spring into frame seat, install push-on spring retainer clip. Connect air line and plug in electrical connector. Install heat shield. Align lower end of air spring piston with axle seat. Push down on piston to snap into axle seat at rebound. Install wheel, remove jackstands and lower vehicle until wheels are on ground. Lower jack a little further, but not fully, until air springs are partially inflated. Turn on air suspension switch. Turn ignition key to On, allow air springs to partially inflate. Lower vehicle completely and allow springs to fully inflate. Tighten lug nuts to torque.
