Ford Edge Trailing Arm

Trailing Arm in Ford Edge vehicles is an essential component of the trailing-link suspension system, which establish the relation between the axle and chassis. Its main operation is to reduce undesirable motion of the axles, and always contributes to the vehicle stability and maneuvering quality. The design normally has a T-bar rear suspension where there may be several links, together with a Panhard rod, which is used for the lateral location of the wheel or a semi T-bar that affords the rear suspension more flexibility. The Ford Edge models of the past years have incorporated such kind of trailing arms for the premier performance. The trailing-arm geometry is suitable for live axle suspension systems, meanwhile the semi trailing arm setup provides enhanced ability to follow irregularities of the road. All these differences lead to improved interior and cargo space which makes Ford Edge one of the most suitable vehicles to drive especially if you need comfort and space for your cargo.

Ford Edge Trailing Arm Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install Trailing Arm on Ford Edge?
A: To replace suspension components, first, loosen the wheel lug nuts, then raise the vehicle and remove the wheels. To do this, disconnect the wheel speed sensor from the upper Trailing Arm as well as the brake hose bracket, and lower rear sub-frame and remove the upper arm bolts. Also, the rear coil spring will be removed together with the cam adjuster bolt that forms part of the lower Trailing Arm. The Trailing Arm requires the removal of the brake caliper, brake disc, and parking brake shoes in addition to detaching the wheel speed sensor plus brake hose bracket. Models produced between 2011 and 2014 require supporting the lower control arm while removing the stabilizer bar link, parking brake cable bracket, and Trailing Arm-to-rear knuckle bolts. Make sure you mark the position of the adjuster cam on the toe link before removing the fasteners so that they can be replaced later on.
