Ford Explorer Sport Trac Brake Master Cylinder Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How do you remove the master cylinder on Ford Explorer Sport Trac?
A: To remove the brake master cylinder, place rags under brake line fittings and prepare caps or bags to cover line ends. Use a flare-nut wrench to unscrew tube nuts at brake lines' ends. Pull lines away, plug ends, and disconnect cruise switch and brake fluid level warning light switch. Remove mounting nuts and detach brake master cylinder. Discard remaining fluid in reservoir. Pry off old reservoir and lubricate new grommets before pressing into brake master cylinder. Inspect cap and diaphragm for damage. For bench-bleeding, support cylinder in vise, attach bleeder tubes, submerge in reservoir, and fill with fluid. Depress piston to expel air bubbles. If new cylinder, plug ports, fill with fluid, and loosen cruise control pressure switch while assistant depresses pushrod. Tighten switch with pushrod fully depressed. Remove tubes, refill reservoirs, and install diaphragm and cap assembly. Reverse removal steps and bleed brakes for installation.
