Ford F-150 Steering Column Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How do you remove the steering column on Ford F-150?
A: To remove the steering column, start by parking the vehicle with the wheels pointing straight ahead and disconnecting the negative battery cable. Then, remove the Steering Wheel and place the ignition key in the LOCK position. Next, remove the knee bolster from under the steering column and the steering column panel. Take off the steering column covers and disconnect the electrical connectors for the steering column harness. If the vehicle has an automatic transmission, detach the shift cable and the transmission range indicator cable. Remove the intermediate shaft coupler bolt and discard it. Finally, remove the steering column mounting nuts, lower the column, and pull it to the rear, ensuring that nothing is still connected. Separate the intermediate shaft from the steering shaft and remove the column. To install the steering column, guide it into position, connect the intermediate shaft, and install the mounting fasteners without tightening them yet. Install the pinch bolt and tighten it lightly. Finally, tighten the column mounting fasteners and complete the installation in reverse order.
