Ford Fairmont Blower Motor Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and reinstall the blower motor assembly in a Ford Fairmont?
A: Disconnect the battery negative cable. Remove the screws securing the right ventilator assembly duct and cable to the lower edge of the instrument panel and remove the assemblies. Remove the glove box liner and the 2 plastic rivets securing the grille to the ventilator floor outlet and remove the grille from the bottom of the ventilator. Remove the right register duct and register assembly to give access to the upper right ventilator retaining screw. The screw can then be removed using a long extension through the register opening. Remove the screws retaining the ventilator assembly to the Blower Motor and slide the ventilator assembly to the Blower Motor and slide the ventilator assembly to the right and then down to remove it. Disconnect the control cable from the door crank arm and remove the cable assembly. Disconnect the orange and black striped wire from the heater blower resistor assembly and push it back into the case. Remove the right side cowl trim panel and disconnect the black blower ground terminal plug. Remove the 3 screws retaining the blower motor flange to the housing. For better access to the screws, it may be necessary to remove the blower wheel. This is accomplished by removing the motor hub clamp spring with hose clamp pliers and sliding the wheel from the shaft. Installation is the reverse of removal with attention paid to the following. The plastic rivets removed can be replaced with two 10 x 12 in metal screws. Use a new push nut when re-connecting the cable removed. When reinstalling the blower motor wheel, use a new hub clamp spring.
