Ford Focus Accelerator Cable Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install the Accelerator Cable on Ford Focus?
A: This procedure is specifically for 2007 and earlier models. To remove the accelerator pedal, start by removing the trim panel above the driver's footwell and disconnecting the diagnostic connector plug. Then, disconnect the inner cable from the top of the pedal and unhook it through the slot at the top. Pry the rubber grommet from the firewall and remove the cable and end fitting into the engine compartment. Next, disconnect the inner cable from the quadrant on the throttle housing by extracting the retaining clip and prying the end fitting sideways. Finally, release the cable from the supports in the engine compartment. To install the accelerator pedal, reverse the removal steps, making sure to fit the rubber grommet to the firewall first and pushing the cable end fitting through it. Once the cable is reconnected at each end, check its operation by ensuring that the throttle quadrant moves smoothly and easily from fully closed to fully open and back again when the accelerator pedal is depressed and released.
