There are different types of Rack and Pinion Boot used in Ford Focus for the long period though, the differences of these types are not described here. Ford Focus Rack and Pinion Boot Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace Rack and Pinion Boot on Ford Focus?
A: On 2008 and later models, the manufacturer also specifies that all suspension and steering system fasteners that should have specified torque are to be replaced with new ones any time that they are removed apart from subframe bolts. Commence the procedure by the removal of the tie-rod end and its lock nut while remembering the position of the tie-rod end to enable correct alignment of the front wheel upon reassembly. Subsequently, pop the outer and inner retaining clips and unclasp the Rack and Pinion Boot from the steering gear housing. Remove the breather from the boot and pull the boot off the tie-rod, releasing all the tension in the process. Gear grease should then be applied on the tie-rod inner joint and the seating areas on the steering gear housing as well as the tie-rod should be cleaned. Push the new boot over the tie-rod and steering gear housing and fit the breather pipe into the boot. Place new inner and outer retaining clips after that put the tie-rod end. Last of all, the front wheel alignment should be checked and readjusted as early as possible if it has been damaged.
