Ford Fusion Automatic Transmission Shift Levers Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How do you remove and install the shift knob and shift lever assembly on Ford Fusion?
A: To replace the shift knob, first remove the upper bezel of the floor console around the shifter. For models with 2.5L engines, disconnect the TCS switch electrical connector at the shifter. Pull the shift knob bezel down, then remove the two screws in the knob assembly and take off the knob; for 2013 and later models, press in the two tabs on each side of the shift knob shaft to release it. Installation follows the reverse of removal. For the shift lever assembly, disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal and wait at least two minutes. Remove the floor console, then use a trim tool to pry the cable eye from the ballstud on the shifter. Pull back on the clip securing the cable to the cable bracket on the shift assembly and disconnect any electrical connectors at the shift assembly. Remove the four mounting nuts to take out the shift assembly from the floor, and installation is the reverse of removal. Adjust the shift cable anytime it has been disconnected.
