Ford Fusion Heater Core

Heater Core in Ford Fusion cars is one of the main parts of a climate control system which performs similar to a radiator and take the excessive heat that is produced by the engine of the car and circulates warm air in the vehicle cabin. Usually crafted from the aluminum or brass, the core is provided with the hot coolant from the engine The fan of the vehicle is used to blow air through the core that results the warm air inside the car. Heater Cores may have valves or doors for regulating the coolant, while the modern systems may employ the electromechanical actuators for this purpose and for regulating temperature. In fresh cabin air-conditioned Fusions, the heater core can also help to dehumidify cool air that has been brought into the cabin. These issues include blockage, some leakage incidences, and corrosion more so in car models with a relatively older generation, and in addressing the problem, a lot of disassembly of the dashboard might be needed.

Ford Fusion Heater Core Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace a heater core in a Ford Fusion?
A: This is a difficult procedure for the home mechanic, involving numerous hard-to-find fasteners, clips and electrical connectors. First, have the air conditioning refrigerant recovered at a dealer service department or air conditioning shop. Then, disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Drain the cooling system. Disconnect the heater hoses from the heater core inlet and outlet pipes at the firewall and disconnect the thermal expansion valve and the two refrigerant pipes. Remove the instrument panel. On V6 models, remove the lower cowl grille panel to access some HVAC unit fasteners. Tag and disconnect the cables (if equipped) and electrical connectors from the HVAC unit. Remove the mounting fasteners. The heater core is in the right half of the HVAC unit, above the blower motor housing. Remove the heater core cover screws and pull the heater core out of the housing. Installation is the reverse of removal. Don't forget to reconnect the heater core inlet and outlet hoses at the firewall. Use a new gasket where the two air conditioning pipes meet the expansion valve at the firewall. Refill and bleed the cooling system. Have the refrigerant recharged.
