How to remove and install the steering wheel on 2000-2011 Ford Ranger?

To remove the steering wheel, first disconnect the negative cable from the battery, and if equipped with an airbag, also disconnect the positive cable. For non-airbag systems, remove the screws securing the horn pad to the steering wheel and take it off. For airbag systems, pry the plugs covering the driver's side airbag module screws on the sides of the steering wheel. In non-airbag systems, partially pull the horn pad away, unplug the electrical connector, and then remove it. For airbag models, remove the screws from the side of the steering wheel, lift the airbag off, and detach the electrical connector, storing the airbag safely. Loosen the steering wheel bolt a few turns without removing it, then use a steering wheel puller to remove the wheel, ensuring not to hammer on the shaft. After the wheel is loose, remove and discard the bolt, using a new one for installation. Lift off the damper if equipped, and check for alignment marks on the steering wheel and column, making your own if necessary. For installation, ensure the horn spring is in position, align the marks on the steering wheel hub and shaft, and slip the wheel onto the shaft, installing and tightening the new mounting bolt to the specified torque. The rest of the installation follows the reverse order of removal, ensuring that the airbag wiring does not get pinched between the airbag sliding contact and the steering wheel.
