Q: How to remove the steering wheel and column cover on Lincoln Town Car?
A: Remove the steering wheel. Remove the column cover retaining screws. On earlier models, remove the collar from the top of the steering column. On later models, use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the steering column cover screws. Remove the steering column opening cover or knee protector (airbag-equipped models). On earlier models, remove the screw and detach the steering column opening cover. On some tilt steering columns, a small wrench is necessary to unscrew the tilt lever. Remove the tilt lever with a small wrench on later models. On some models, it will be necessary to remove the ignition lock cylinder to get the upper cover off. On 1998 and later models, the lower cover comes off with removal of the screws, but the steering column mounting bolts/nuts may have to be loosened and the column lowered slightly to allow removal of the upper column cover. Remove any remaining screws, then separate the halves and remove the covers. Detach the lower column cover. Lift the upper column cover up over the shift lever on later models. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
