Mercury Lynx Brake Light Switch Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install the brake light switch on Mercury Lynx?
A: To demount the switch, first, remove the under dash panel. After that, locate the switch that sits near the upper part of the brake pedal, and then disconnect the electrical connector-unplug it, remove the retaining clip and the nylon washer, and unscrew the pushrod from the pedal pin slightly to make it possible to pull the switch out. Subsequently remove the pushrod retaining clip and nylon washer from the brake pedal pin, you can then slide back the pushrod far enough to let the outer hole of the switch clear the pin and then you pull up the switch for removal. When installing this switch the switch should be placed in a manner such that it covers the pushrod and the slot that is found inside the switch should cover the pedal pin. Piggyback the pushrod and shift back onto the pin, place, the nylon washer then the retaining clip. Last but not the least mount the electrical connector then replace the under dash panel and check on the brake light to see that it is working as expected.
