- Q: How do you properly install and adjust a door latch striker on Mercury Lynx?A: Use vise grip pliers to unscrew the door latch striker stud from the door jamb. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure with the following additions: the door latch striker can be adjusted vertically and laterally as well as fore-and-aft, but it should not be used to compensate for door misalignment. The door latch striker can be shimmed to obtain the correct clearance between the latch and the striker. To check the clearance between the latch jamb and the striker area, spread a layer of dark grease on the striker. Open and close the door several times and note the pattern of the grease. Move the door striker assembly laterally to provide a flush fit at the door and pillar or at the quarter panel, and tighten the door latch striker after adjustment is complete.
