Q: How to remove and install a Steering Knuckle on Mercury Mariner?
A: Loosen the drive axle/hub nut and wheel lug nuts to remove the wheel. Remove the wheel and hang the brake caliper from the coil spring. If applicable, remove the wheel speed sensor and disconnect the brake hose from the strut. Separate the tie-rod end from the steering knuckle arm by loosening the strut-to-steering knuckle nuts and bolts, and remove the ball joint-to-steering knuckle pinch bolt. Pushing it from behind, withdraw the drive axle/hub nut and support it with wire. Remove the ball joint from the steering knuckle then take out strut-to-knuckle bolts. Separate the steering knuckle carefully away from the strut. When installing the guide knuckle assembly into position, insert the drive axle into the hub and push the knuckle onto the strut flange. Tighten bolts and nuts; also connect the ball joint after which tighten pinch bolt/nut. As well as attaching the tie-rod to the steering knuckle arm, make sure you tighten all three of your strut bolt nuts down on both sides of the vehicle along with the tie-rod nut attaching the strut to the front suspension member bracket rearward of the engine compartment side shields or fenders themselves if present (if not present then go ahead).
