    How to remove and replace the air conditioning accumulator in a Mercury Mountaineer? Posted by Customer

    Have the air conditioning system dis-charged by a dealer service department or by an automotive air conditioning shop before proceeding. Remove the air filter housing. Remove the front grille. Disconnect the condenser line and the evaporator line from the top of the accumulator. Remove and discard the old O-rings. Push the radiator air deflector forward to access the accumulator mounting nut on the backside of the radiator support panel. Remove the accumulator mounting bolts and remove the accumulator. Note: The lower mounting bolt must be accessed from behind the radiator support panel while the upper bolt can be accessed from inside the engine compartment. Replace all old O-rings. Before installing the new O-rings, coat them with refrigerant oil. Tighten the inlet and outlet air conditioning line mounting nuts to the torque. Installation is otherwise the reverse of removal. Take the vehicle to the shop that discharged it and have the system evacuated and recharged.
