    Q:
How do you disconnect and remove the upper control arm, and what components should be inspected during this process for the 2009 Ford Expedition? Posted by Customer
    A:
To disconnect the upper control arm from the steering knuckle, remove the cotter pin from the balljoint castle nut, loosen the nut a few turns (without removing it), use a small puller to break the balljoint loose from the knuckle, and then remove the nut. Afterward, remove the upper control arm pivot bolts and nuts. During this process, inspect the pivot bolt bushings for wear. If they are worn, the control arm needs replacement. Also, inspect the upper balljoint seal. If it's leaking, replace the control arm, as the balljoint itself is not serviceable.
