Loosen the wheel lug nuts, raise the front of the vehicle, and support it securely on jackstands before removing the front wheel. If the vehicle is equipped with Automatic control (ARC), ensure the air suspension switch is turned to the OFF position before raising the vehicle to prevent damage to the system components. Remove the shock absorber and disconnect the stabilizer bar. Position the floor jack directly under the lower control arm for support during removal, then remove the torsion bar. Discard the cotter pin from the balljoint stud, loosen the castle nut on the stud, and tap the spindle sharply near the stud to relieve pressure and loosen it in the knuckle. If the stud does not come loose, a "picklefork" type of balljoint stud separator may be necessary, though it can damage the balljoint boot. Loosen the two control arm pivot bolts, remove the balljoint stud nut, separate the pivot bolts from the control arm, and remove the lower control arm, ensuring that on 4WD models, the spindle and axleshaft are supported to avoid damage. Inspect the bushings for cracks and tears; if damaged or worn, take the control arm to an automotive machine for new bushings, as this requires specialized tools. If the balljoint is worn out, the entire control arm must be replaced. Install the lower control arm pivot bolts and nuts without fully tightening them, then install the torsion bar. Use a floor jack to raise the lower control arm and guide it into position. Insert the balljoint stud into the spindle, install the castle nut, and tighten it to the specified torque, ensuring the hole in the stud aligns with the slot in the nut before installing a new cotter pin. Install the shock absorber, attach the stabilizer bar, and install the wheel. Remove the jackstands, lower the vehicle, and tighten the wheel lug nuts to the specified torque. Finally, tighten the lower control arm pivot bolt nuts to the specified torque and adjust the vehicle ride height by turning the torsion bar bolt, then have the front-end alignment checked by a dealer service department or an alignment shop.
