    Q:
How to maintain and check the power brake booster unit on Ford Crown Victoria? Posted by Customer
    A:
First of all, the power brake booster unit does not require any special maintenance. The vacuum hose and case should be inspected from time to time. If necessary, a new or factory-rebuilt unit should be installed. To check the booster, the brake pedal must be depressed a number of times without starting the engine. After starting the engine, check for any changes in pedal reserve distance. A "hard" pedal feel indicates booster problems or vacuum hose leaks. Removing involves detaching the master cylinder, vacuum hose, electrical connector and push rod retaining clip. Finally, remove the nuts attaching the booster to the firewall and lift it out. For installation purposes, put the booster on the firewall, tighten the nuts then reconnect push-rod and brake light switch before attaching the master cylinder back on it. Adjusting pushrod length may be necessary in some cases.

    Q:
What steps are involved in removing and installing a vacuum-operated booster for the 1982 Lincoln Town Car? Posted by Customer
    A:
To remove the booster, detach the master cylinder, vacuum hose, brake light switch, and nuts attaching it to the firewall. Installation involves placing the booster on the firewall, connecting the pushrod and brake light switch, and tightening the mounting nuts. Adjustment may be necessary if the pushrod is misadjusted, and a gauge can be used to check the pushrod length.
