The bumper is heavy and somewhat awkward to remove and install; at least two people should perform this procedure. To remove the valance, first take out the screws and plastic rivets securing it to the bumper, then pull the valance back and remove it, with installation being the reverse of removal. For front bumpers on models from 1991 through 2000, raise the front of the vehicle, support it securely on jackstands, block the rear wheels, and set the parking brake. On 1997 through 2000 models, if applicable, remove the plastic air deflector panel below the radiator. For models equipped with optional fog lights, disconnect the electrical connectors and unbolt the fog lights. Have an assistant hold the bumper assembly while removing the bolts or nuts on each side securing it to the frame; some models may have studs on the bumper with nuts holding them to the chassis. Installation follows the reverse of removal, with the addition of transferring the license plate holder and any additional trim items to a new bumper if applicable, and adjusting the bumper by repositioning the fasteners in the brackets before securely tightening the nuts. For front bumpers on models from 2001 and later, open the hood and remove the bolts and retaining clips to take off the radiator grille sight shield. Next, remove both headlight and parking lamp assemblies, followed by the three bolts for the lower radiator air deflector. On each side, take out the three fender splash shield bolts, and within the wheel well, remove the front bumper cover bolt on each side. Release the six locking tabs to remove the front bumper cover assembly, with installation being the reverse of the removal procedure.

If necessary, remove the bumper brackets, stone deflector, and step plate.
