This procedure is for the 1999 through 2004 models with a mechanical throttle cable since 2005 and newer models use an electric throttle control and accelerator pedal position sensors. The procedures to remove the accelerator cable include; the first step involves, reaching the centre of the accelerator pipe and removing the accelerator cable protection shield then unscrewing the end of the cruise control cable from the throttle lever using a screw driver to pull of the throttle body ballstud. Next, take out the new accelerator cable from the throttle lever-turn the end of the cable and pull it out from the groove of the throttle valve, then free the end of the cable from the bracket. Remove the accelerator cable pedal by pulling out the accelerator cable end on the side of the line of the accelerator pedal assembly and pulling out accelerator cable end on the recess side of the driver compartment. Make sure that all clips or brackets that hold the accelerator cable are released then pull the cable through the fire wall from the engine side. The process of removal is the exact opposite to installation, with proper cable routing and making certain that the grommet sets properly into the firewall. If required then paint the sealant around the accelerator cable on the engine side of the firewall to avoid seepage of water in the passengers' side of the car. For adjustment, determine the position of the freeplay with the fingers holding the cable while applying pressure on the top of the cable housing so that there is a tiny amount of freeplay that is allowed on the cable. Cables that have no free play, a cable that has the throttle lever locked or slightly open or and if the cable has over free play should be replaced.
