To replace the parking brake cable on various models, follow these steps. For 1991 and 1992 models, raise the vehicle, loosen the equalizer nut, disconnect the cable from the pedal assembly, and remove it from the passenger compartment. Install by pulling the assembly through the cable housing and fastening it under the vehicle. For the rear cable, raise the vehicle, release the parking brake, remove the wheel, brake drum, and locknut. Disconnect the cable end, release the cable and housing from the crossmember, and remove it through the backing plate hole. Installation is the reverse of removal. For 1993 and 1994 models, relieve cable tension, disconnect the cables from the pedal assembly, and remove them from the passenger compartment. Install by pulling the assembly through the cable housing and fastening it under the vehicle. For the rear cable, disconnect it from the intermediate cable, separate the cable and housing from the bracket, and remove it through the backing plate hole. Installation is the reverse of removal. For 1995 and later models, release the parking brake, remove the bolt and clamp holding the front cable, and release the rear of the front cable from the intermediate cable connector. For the intermediate and rear cables, disconnect the front cable from the connector to the intermediate cable and disconnect the rear of the intermediate cable from the connector to the rear cables. For the rear cable, remove the brake drum and disassemble the brake, then disconnect the parking brake cable from the actuating lever and backing plate. Installation is the reverse of removal, ensuring correct cable reattachment to the intermediate cable.
