    Q:
How to replace the parking brake cable on Ford Explorer Sport Trac? Posted by Customer
    A:
If you're repairing 1995 or later vans, loosen the parking brake using the release mechanism. An assistant moves the front cable away from the control unit while you put a 5/32-inch pin into the tension service hole to keep the ratchet working. Grasp the front cable's hold clamp, and remove its bolt. Lift the last part of the front wire away from where the middle cable gets connected. Free the front cable from the way it connects with the middle cable. Pull the locking tang of the rear intermediate cable connector open with a small screwdriver, and take the cable loose from its connection. To take out the rear cable, peel off the brake drum if your brake has one, then remove the brake components. Cut off the parking brake cable connection to both the actuator and the backing plate. If you have a car with rear disk brakes, you need to remove these two things: take the brake cables out of the connection on the back of your parking brake lever, and unplug the parking brake cable from its bracket on the top of the back brake. Installation works the opposite way of removal, being sure to put the left rear cable on top and connected first to the end of the connector, while the right rear cable goes under the left one and connects to the other end.

    Q:
How to install and reset the parking brake cables on Ford Ranger? Posted by Customer
    A:
To perform this procedure, enter a steel pin with 5/32 inches drill bit or by making a point from stiff wire with a loop in one end for easing the removal. It is necessary to use an assistant to pull the parking brake cable, while the pin is installed. First, place your hand on the lever and pull back to unlock the parking brake then find the lockout pin hole of the parking brake control. When the assistant has pulled the front parking brake cable rearward, the pin should be inserted into the hole in the parking brake control assembly before the assistant releases the cable. To set cable tension back, one has to eliminate the parking brake pin and pull the parking brake pedal several times. After that, loosen the cable tension, lift the vehicle firmly on jack stands, and remove the front end of front cable to the parking brake rear cable. In the vehicle, unbolt the cable connector from the pedal assembly and then separate the cable from the mounting bracket on the frame as well as pulling out the cable to frame bolt if installed. Installation is done in reverse order hence the retainer fingers on the cable, secure it to the front mounting bracket then adjusting the tension on the cable. For the rear cable, the tension has to be relieved, the vehicle is then raised securely on jackstands and then the hubcap, the wheel and tire and the brake drum are to be removed. Pull the front cable off the rear cable then, remove the end of the right rear cable from the equalizer and take it out from the holder. In the wheel side of the backing plate, force the retainer fingers inwards to enable the retainer to slip through the hole in the backing plate; pull the cable out of the slot fixed on the parking brake lever anchored to the secondary brake shoe and evacuate the cable through the backing plate hole. It is installed in backward fashion and after that cable tension is adjusted back to normal.

    Q:
How to replace the parking brake cables on Ford Ranger? Posted by Customer
    A:
This procedure involves driving a steel pin in the parking brake control by use of a 5/32-inch drill or a fabricated pin out of steel wire with a loop to facilitate removal. After pulling the pin an assistant is required to apply force on the parking brake cable. Start by pulling the parking brake and then find the lockout pin hole in the control of the parking brake. When the assistant has pulled the front parking brake cable rearward, slide the pin on the control assembly and then have the assistant release the cable. The parking brake can be reset cable tension by inactive the pin and operating the parking brake pedal several times. After that, let go of the tension on the cables, and then raise the car on safety jack stands then disconnect the back end of the front cables from the parking brake rear cable. In the vehicle, unplug the cable from the pedal assembly, then unclip the bolt if installed, that fits the cable on the frame of the vehicle. Installation is the reverse of the above, where the retainer fingers engage to the front mounting bracket securely before adjusting the cable tension. Concerning the rear cable, lower the cable tension, lift the car using jackstands, then removes the hubcap, the wheel and the tire, and the brake drum. Break the front cable from the rear one, then release the end of the right rear cable from the equalizer and pull it from the bracket. On the wheel side of the backing plate integrate the retainer fingers to enable the retainer to pass through the hole, lift the cable out of the slot that is fitted in the parking brake lever which is attached to the secondary brake shoe and pull it out through the backing plate hole. These are as follows; installation is done starting with the last component and the cable tension is then readjusted.
