    Q:
How to remove and install the Brake Caliper on Ford Edge? Posted by Customer
    A:
2015 and later Edge models and 2016 and later MKX models are equipped with an Electric Parking Brake (EBP). The system must be deactivated (put into service mode) before any work is performed on the rear brakes. If replacement is indicated (usually because of fluid leakage or damage to a piston boot), it is recommended that the calipers be replaced, not overhauled. New and factory rebuilt units are available on an exchange basis, which makes this job quite easy. Always replace the calipers in pairs - never replace just one of them. To remove, first loosen the wheel lug nuts, raise the vehicle (front or rear) and place it securely on jack stands. Remove the wheels. Then, remove the banjo fitting bolt and disconnect the brake hose from the caliper. Discard the sealing washers from each side of the hose fitting. Plug the brake hose to keep contaminants out of the brake system and to prevent losing any more brake fluid than is necessary. If the caliper is being removed for access to another component, don't disconnect the hose. On 2011 through 2014 Edge models/2011 through 2015 MKX models, loosen the parking brake cable tension by adjusting the nut on the parking brake equalizer, then disconnect the parking brake cable from the caliper. If the caliper is being removed just to access another component, use a piece of wire to securely hang it out of the way. Do not let the caliper hang by the brake hose. If you are replacing a rear caliper on a 2011 or later model, disconnect the parking brake cable from the caliper. To install, reverse the removal procedure, tightening the mounting bolts to the torque. Be sure to use new sealing washers and tighten the banjo fitting bolt to the torque. If you are working on a front caliper, note that the mounting bolts are different sizes. The larger bolt goes in the upper position. Bleed the brake circuit. Make sure there are no leaks from the hose connections. On models with EPB, reactivate the parking brake. Test the brakes carefully before returning the vehicle to normal service.
