If you intend to access other components and not disconnect the brake hose, do not remove the brake hose-to-caliper banjo bolt. Discard the two copper sealing washers on each side of the banjo fitting, replacing them when reattaching the brake hose to the caliper. To prevent fluid loss and contamination, wrap a plastic bag around the hose end.

Proceed to remove the caliper mounting bolts and the caliper itself. Clean the caliper using brake system cleaner (avoid kerosene or petroleum-based solvents). Carefully remove the dust boot(s) from the caliper and use compressed air applied through the hydraulic fluid inlet to force the piston(s) out of the bore(s), placing a wooden block between the caliper bridge and piston(s). Remove the piston seal(s) using a plastic or wooden tool and clean the piston(s) and cylinder bore(s) with brake system cleaner or clean brake fluid.
