    Q:
What are the Guidelines and how to Protect and Maintain Electrical Circuits in a Mercury Cougar using Fuses? Posted by Customer
    A:
The electrical circuits of the vehicle are protected by a combination of fuses, circuit breakers and fusible links. These models have two fuse blocks, one for standard fused located under the instrument panel on the left side of the dashboard and one for high current fuses in the engine compartment, adjacent to the battery. Disconnect the battery negative cable before replacing high current fuses. The manufacturer recommends that high capacity fuses be replaced by a dealer or qualified electrical technician. Miniaturized fuses are employed in the fuse block in the passenger compartment. These compact fuses, with blade terminal design, allow fingertip removal and replacement. If an electrical component fails, always check the fuse first. A blown fuse is easily identified through the clear plastic body. Visually inspect the element for evidence of damage. If a continuity check is called for, the blade terminal tips are exposed in the fuse body. Be sure to replace blown fuses with the correct type. Fuses of different ratings are physically interchangeable, but only fuses of the proper rating should be used. Replacing a fuse with one of a higher or lower value than specified is not recommended. Each electrical circuit needs a specific amount of protection. The amperage value of each fuse is molded into the fuse body. If the replacement fuse immediately fails, don't replace it again until the cause of the problem is isolated and corrected. In most cases, the cause will be a short circuit in the wiring caused by a broken or deteriorated wire.

    Q:
How are the Electrical Circuits Protected and Managed in Lincoln Town Car, and how to Replace and Troubleshoot fuse? Posted by Customer
    A:
The electrical circuits of the vehicle are protected by a combination of fuses, circuit breakers and fusible links. The fuse block is located below the left side of the dash. Later models have two fuse blocks, one for standard fuses located under the instrument panel on the left side of the dashboard and one for high current fuses in the engine compartment, adjacent to the battery. Disconnect the cable to the negative battery terminal before replacing high current fuses. On earlier models the fuses are tubular glass body types while on later models miniaturized fuses are employed. These compact fuses, with blade terminal design, allow fingertip removal and replacement. If an electrical component fails, always check the fuse first. The best way to check a fuse is with a test light. Check for power at the exposed terminal tips of each fuse. If power is present on one side of the fuse but not the other, the fuse is blown. A blown fuse can also be confirmed by visually inspecting it. Q:
How do you troubleshoot and replace fuses in electrical circuits on Ford Bronco? Posted by Customer
    A:
The electrical circuits of this vehicle are safeguarded by a combination of fuses, fusible links, and circuit breakers, with later models featuring two separate fuse blocks, the fuse panel, which can be found under the dash behind the access door in an area of left side of the steering column and the power distribution box is mounted in the engine compartment in the left side fender apron. The fuse block consists of miniature fuse units, each of which is easily insertable or removable, and each of which covers one or more circuits, though labeled on the cover of the fuse panel. If there is an electrical component failure, the fuse should be checked; the simplest way was found to be use of a test light which was connected between an exposed terminal point and another terminal, if the test light glows and at the same time, if power is felt at the exposed terminal tips, then the fuse is blown; this can also be ascertained by visual inspection. Fuses have to be pulled out and inserted vertically so as not to twist the terminals; moreover, blown fuses should be replaced with the fuse of the correct type and the correct amperage as using the wrong fuse is dangerous due to the protection characteristics of each circuit. The amperage value is usually printed on the fuse body as a red strip and it is unsafe to replace a fuse while the car is on and with any electrical system on; it is extremely dangerous to bypass a fuse with metal or foil. If the fuse blows as soon as it is replaced, a fuse should not be put back in until the problem, commonly a short circuit resulting from cracked or otherwise damaged wire, is fixed.
