Disconnect the cable(s) from the negative battery terminal(s). Remove the air filter. For gasoline models from 1999 through 2004, disconnect the IAT sensor, MAF sensor, PCV hose, and IAC valve connector. Remove the air filter box inlet and outlet ducts from the air filter box, then separate the air filter box from the bracket and remove the mounting bolts to lift the bracket from the engine compartment if necessary. Installation is the reverse of removal. For 2005 and later models with 5.4L engines, remove the air filter and the air cleaner intake duct, disconnect the vent hose and wiring to the MAF sensor, remove the four mounting bolts, and lift off the air cleaner. Installation is the reverse of removal. For 6.0L engines, disconnect the vent hose and wiring to the MAF sensor, remove the outlet duct from the air cleaner, disconnect the auxiliary inlet hose, and remove the air cleaner, with installation being the reverse of removal. For diesel models with 7.3L engines, remove the left-side battery, the air filter box outlet duct, and the upper cover from the air filter box. Remove the mounting bolts from the air filter box, lift it slightly to access the IAT sensor connector, disconnect the IAT sensor connector from the rear of the battery tray, and lift the air filter box from the engine compartment, with installation being the reverse of removal. For 6.0L engines, remove the air filter element/duct, disconnect the extra air intake tube, remove the front cover, disconnect the air filter condition monitor, disconnect the MAF sensor wiring connector, loosen the retaining clamp, and lift out the air cleaner housing.
