How to remove and install cylinder heads on Ford Bronco II? Posted by Customer
    A:
For the 2.0L and 2.3L gasoline engines, start the procedure by draining the cooling system, and disconnecting the negative battery cables and use a sealable container to collect the coolant for disposal in a safest way that which will not harm pets. Take out the air cleaner and the valve cover, if there is air conditioning compressor, then move it aside, unbolt the intake and exhaust manifold. After that, remove the camshaft drive belt cover, rotate the drive belt tensioner, and take out the water outlet elbow. Then you get to remove the cylinder head bolts and then remove the cylinder head from the engine. For installation, all gasket material should be cleaned, a new cylinder head gasket should be installed, the head should be placed back on and if required guide studs can be used to align the head properly. Final tightening of the head bolts must be done in a two-step sequence, camshaft drive belt and the cover installed, and the final assembly of all other parts reversed from the order of disassembly. For 2.2L & 2.3L Diesel Engine, then remove the ground cables, note the position of the hood hinges and drain the cooling system). Disconnect the fuel injection lines, remove various hoses, the vacuum pump and the alternator belts and also pull off the engine wire harness. The valve cover and cylinder head bolts are loosened and taken off and the cylinder head should be lifted off after which the surfaces should be clean and a new gasket installed the bolts are then tighten appropriately. Reconnect all the components in the reverse order as which they where disconnected and make sure that they are properly connected. To perform works on the 2.8L and 2.9L engines, first remove the battery, then drain the radiator, take off the air cleaner and the distributor. Remove the intake and exhaust manifolds, also unbolt the cylinder heads and heads bolts. Clean the surfaces, and replace the existing gaskets with new ones and then fit on the heads the new bolts and torque sequence. Put back the different components of the engine in a way that they will interconnect properly. For the 4.0L engine remove the air cleaner and intake manifolds, as well as the battery and all the coolant. This will require the removal of any connecting pieces as well as the spark plugs if the cylinder head being removed is the one located in the centre. Rocker arm cover and push rods to be stopped, then cylinder head bolt to be loosened and removed. Scrub the surfaces, install fresh gaskets, and screw the heads with tightening the bolts of specified percentages. Reconstruct the engine and make sure that all components are fitted properly and all electrical connections are tight and all the hoses are well fixed before turning on the engine and examining the leakage.
