Lower the tailgate and remove the access cover by taking out the cover screws to reach the inside of the tailgate. Next, remove the latch mounting fasteners by loosening the tailgate latch retaining screws, which may require an impact driver. Disconnect the control rods from the latch and take the latch out of the door. For installation, follow the reverse process of removal. Disconnect the control rods by disengaging the handle-to-latch rods and removing the handle retaining nuts. Detach the retaining nuts and take the handle assembly off the tailgate, with installation again being the reverse of removal.

For the remedy of the door latch, raise and remove the door trim panel along with the watershield and the window together. Lastly, unscrew the nuts that hold the latch in position on the door particular the retaining screws that are usually at the far end of the door.
