As for removal of the instrument panel it requires separation of quite a few electrical connectors and due to the presence of numerous plastic screws some of which may turn up to be brittle it is not advisable to attempt the process at home. Starting with the 2007 and previous years, the process is first, before connecting to airbag system, unfasten the negative battery cable and wait for 5 minutes. Take out the center console, air duct, lower center dashboard trim, steering column, instrument cluster, radio/cassette player and they standard glovebox, heater control panel, and main headlight control switch. Lower side trim panels must be unscrewed, instrument panel side mounting screws have to be released and air vent retaining clips have to be released. Remove the dash center-mounting screw, and the screws of the instrument panel and passenger airbag, and pull the instrument panel out of the firewall. For 2008 and later models, remove the upper steering column cover, use a 1/4 inch socket to remove the lower cover screws, and free the lower trim panel. Lower down the steering wheel and then you un bolt the instrument cluster bezel, for the center trim panel you have to unscrew the gear shift knob and pull the parking brake lever and disconnecting circuits. Lose the right hand instrument panel trim, the shift lever, and then snap off the negative battery terminal. Take out the standard console, disconnect the wiring of the parking brake from the lever and SRS, and raised the scuff plates of the door thresholds. Prize out the door weatherstrips, remove the kick panels, and disconnect both the steering shaft sections in such a manner so as not to cause damage to the clockspring and you must lock the steering wheel. Remove lower windshield molding screws, different wire harnesses, remove instrument panel side bolt cover and the upper cowl screw. Spur Kwik-Connect pull knob retainers and the upper section of the rear foot well duct before finally gently pulling the instrument panel free of the vehicle, removing the pin retains and ISA bracket bolts and the duct cap extension. Installation is a process that is the total opposite of removal, where all bolts must be started before any tightening is done, and discarded fasteners put back in place.
