Begin by raising the vehicle and securely supporting it on jackstands, then position a jack under the engine oil pan with a large wood block between the jack head and the oil pan, carefully raising the engine just enough to relieve the weight on the mounts. Inspect the mounts for cracked, hardened rubber or separation from the metal plates, noting that the rubber can sometimes split down the center. Check for relative movement between the mount plates and the engine or frame using a large screwdriver or pry bar; if movement is detected, lower the engine and tighten the mount fasteners. Applying rubber preservative can help slow deterioration. For replacement, disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal, raise the vehicle, and support it securely on jackstands if not already done. Again, place a large wood block between the jack head and the oil pan, raising the engine just enough to relieve the weight on the mounts and through bolts. Remove the through bolts connecting the upper and lower motor mount halves, noting that there are two on the left engine mount and one on the right. Once the bolts are removed from both sides, raise the engine until the fan blades just meet the fan shroud, placing wood blocks between the frame and the exhaust manifold on both sides for support and clearance. Detach the mount by removing the mount-to-block bolts, and if replacing the mounts, access the bolts attaching them to the frame through the access holes. Installation follows the reverse order of removal, using thread locking compound on the mount bolts and tightening them to the specified torque.

To check the transmission mount it's necessary to insert a thin screwdriver between the crossmember and the mount and try to slide it-there should be almost no way the screwdriver would slide. If there is a large amount of movement remove the mount by undoing the nuts which secure the mount to the crossmember, then undoing the bolts which fasten the mount to the transmission extension housing. After that, lift the transmission with a jack just a little and then unbolt the mount. For installation, the reverse of this procedure should be taken; however, nuts and bolts should be tightened before everything else.
