Engine mounts seldom require attention, but broken or deteriorated mounts should be replaced immediately to prevent damage or wear on the drive line components. To check the mounts, raise the engine slightly to remove the weight from them. Securely support the vehicle on jack stands, position a jack under the engine oil pan with a large block of wood in between, and carefully raise the engine just enough to relieve the mounts. Inspect the mounts for any cracks, hardened rubber, or separation from the metal plates, noting that the rubber may split down the center. Check for any relative movement between the mount plates and the engine or frame using a large screwdriver or pry bar; if movement is detected, lower the engine and tighten the mount fasteners. Applying rubber preservative can help slow deterioration. For replacement, disconnect the negative battery cable, raise the vehicle, and support it securely on jack stands if not already done. Remove the fasteners to detach the mount from the frame bracket, then raise the engine slightly with a jack or hoist, ensuring the fan does not hit the radiator or shroud, and remove the mount-to-block nuts or bolts. Installation follows the reverse order of removal, using thread locking compound on the mount fasteners and ensuring they are tightened securely.

Insert a large screwdriver or pry bar into the space between the transmission extension housing and the frame crossmember and pry up. The transmission should not move significantly away from the mount; pry up on the transmission mount and check for excessive looseness. If it does, the mount should be replaced. To replace the mount, remove the two nuts securing it to the frame crossmember and the two bolts securing it to the transmission extension housing. Place a jack under the transmission with a piece of wood on top to protect the transmission case. Apply a slight amount of jack pressure and raise the transmission, then remove the mount and install a new one. Installation is the reverse of the removal process.
