Q:
What should be done to complete the assembly of the driveaxle and hub for the 2009 Ford Edge? Posted by Customer
A:
Install the wheel speed sensor and harness bracket. Install the brake disc and caliper/mounting bracket assembly. Seat the driveaxle using the old driveaxle/hub nut and washer, then tighten the nut to the torque. Remove and discard the old nut and washer, replacing them with new parts and retighten to the specified torque. The driveaxle/hub nut must be tightened before lowering the vehicle or damage to the wheel bearings may occur. The driveaxle/hub nut is coated with a one-use locking chemical and cannot be reused for final assembly. The locking chemical is activated by heat created during tightening. The nut must be tightened to the specified torque within five minutes of starting it on the threads or the locking chemical will not activate properly.

Q:
How to remove and install Steering Knuckle on Lincoln MKX? Posted by Customer
A:
Removal begins with loosening the wheel lug nuts, raising the vehicle and supporting it securely on jackstands, then removing the wheel. With the brake applied to prevent the driveaxle from rotating, remove the driveaxle/ hub nut, washer and hub seal. Discard the old seal but do not discard the nut and washer yet. Remove the ABS wheel speed sensor and the wiring harness bracket bolt. Disconnect the brake hose bracket from the strut, then remove the brake caliper (don't disconnect the hose), the caliper mounting bracket and the brake disc. Hang the caliper from the coil spring with a piece of wire - don't let it hang by the brake hose. Separate the control arm from the steering knuckle. Separate the tie-rod end from the steering knuckle arm. Separate the driveaxle from the hub using a drive hub remover or an equivalent puller. Detach the lower end of the strut from the steering knuckle, then remove the knuckle. For installation, guide the knuckle and hub assembly into position, inserting the driveaxle into the hub. Install and tighten the lower strut bolts and nuts. Connect the ball joint to the knuckle and tighten the pinch bolt nut to the torque. Attach the tie-rod end to the steering knuckle arm. Tighten the nut to the torque. Install the wheel speed sensor and harness bracket. Install the brake disc and caliper/mounting bracket assembly. With the brake applied to prevent the driveaxle from rotating, seat the driveaxle by using the old driveaxle/hub nut and washer and tighten the nut to the torque. Remove and discard the old nut and washer, replace them with new parts and retighten to the specified torque. Install the wheel and lug nuts. Lower the vehicle and tighten the lug nuts to the torque. Finally, have the front-end alignment checked and, if necessary, adjusted.
