    Q:
How do you remove and install the hood latch and release cable on Ford Fusion? Posted by Customer
    A:
To access the hood latch on 2011 and 2012 models, remove the upper radiator grille bolts and plastic rivets, while for 2013 and later models, the bumper cover must be removed. Open the hood and mark a line around the latch for alignment during installation. Remove the retaining bolts securing the hood latch to the radiator support and take out the latch. Squeeze the cable retainer to release the cable from the latch assembly and disengage the cable end plug. For 2012 and earlier models, work in the engine compartment to remove the hood latch and disconnect the hood release cable, then detach the two release cable clips from the radiator grille opening panel reinforcement. Loosen the wheel lug nuts, raise the vehicle securely on jackstands, and remove the left front wheel along with the inner fender splash shield. Open the two release cable clips in the upper part of the fender opening and detach the release cable from the clips. Disengage the release cable clip from the wiring harness, remove the Smart Junction Box if applicable, and take out the two hood release handle mounting bolts to pull out the handle and disengage the release cable from it. For 2013 and later models, remove the front bumper cover and the cable junction block cover to the hood latch release cable, then detach the rear and right hood latch release cables, followed by the left hood release cable. Disconnect the cable stays and brackets for both left and right cables, press the retaining tabs inward to release the junction block, and remove the hood latch release lever from the driver's side kick panel. Take off the driver's side sill plate trim, instrument panel end trim cover, and pull the door weatherstrip off the A-pillar and driver's kick panel area. Remove the trim close-out panel between the A-pillar and instrument panel, then take out the driver's side kick panel and push the carpeting aside to access the hood release cable. Remove the bolts from the hood latch release and disconnect the rear hood release cable, detach any cable stays or brackets leading to the firewall, and pull the cable through the firewall and cowling area. If necessary, disconnect the cable from the hood latch release cable junction block, with installation being the reverse of removal.

    Q:
How to install and remove the hood latch and release cable on Lincoln MKX? Posted by Customer
    A:
To fit the hood latch, one has to reverse the observed procedure of fitting the grille shutter by making a note of the fact that the active grille shutter has to be removed where the model is 2015 and above. Draw a pencil line around the latch for alignment purpose and then unbolt the retaining bolts that hold the hood latch to the radiator support and pull out the latch. After that, it is necessary to put the pressure on the cable retainer to free it from the latch assembly and to detach the cable end plug. For the release cable, it is up in the engine compartment that is where you have to get rid of the hood latch and also free the hood release cable from the latch. Remove the two release cable clips from the radiator support, undo the left front wheellug nuts, safely jack up the car on jack stands and remove the wheel, also take off the inner fender splash shield. Pull free the two latches on the top of the fender opening to release the cable from its clips and to release the cable clip from the wiring harness though on some models it may be required to remove the Smart Junction Box. Last but not least, it is necessary to remove the two hood release handle mounting bolts, to take out the hood release handle, to disconnect the release cable from the release handle and to pull the cable through the fire wall.
