    Q:
How often should the hinges and latch assemblies on the doors, hood, and trunk be lubricated on Ford Excursion? Posted by Customer
    A:
Every 3000 miles, or once in three months, the hinges and latch assemblies on the doors, hood, and trunk should be oiled a few times with light oil or lock lubricant. The door latch strikers should also be lubricated with a layer of grease as thin as possible, so that it will not affect the movement of the parts due to the accumulation of thick grease. Finally, grease the door and trunk locks with "spray-on graphite lubricant".

    Q:
How to remove and install the door latch, handle and door lock cylinder on Ford Excursion? Posted by Customer
    A:
If the door latch is to be replaced the following procedures should be followed; open the window, trim panel and remove the watershield. After that remove the screws that attach the latch to the door and then remove the locking rods and cable and , carefully, pull out the latch assembly through the access hole. Locating through the large access hole, the position of the latch so as to disconnect the electrical connector and the outside door handle and lock cylinder from the latch rods and the cable connected to the inside handle-to-latch. Unlock the locking rods by demating the plastic clip capable of engaging the connecting rod then pulling the said rod from it locating hole. Align the latch so as to release the door lock actuator hook, then remove the cable cover, as well as the cable from the latch before finally pulling out the latch assembly from the door. For the outside handle and door lock cylinder assembly, lift the window, dis-assemble the door trim panel and watershield. This is done by unscrewing a rubber plug found at the end of the door in order to gain access to the upper outside handle retaining nut which is then removed through the large hole found on the door. Remove the lock and handle as well as the cylinder by pulling the lock cylinder assembly and thus releasing the snaps that join the lock cylinder to the latch rod and the handle to the latch rod. Lift the front cover up to disconnect the cable from the handle assembly and if there are any electrical connections that hinder the process of removal of the parts then they should be disconnected. Most of the lock cylinders can be removed by pulling the handle assembly and pulling out the clip present at the back of the cylinder. For the inside handle and cable, you will have to remove the door trim panel and the watershield, you will then also then unscrew the nuts holding the inside handle and pull it backward to unlock it from the interior door panel. This latch rod has to be unhooked from the backside of the handle and also pulled out of the car. This is for all components, removal is the opposite of how installation is done.
