    Q:
How do you remove and install a lock cylinder on Ford Fairmont? Posted by Customer
    A:
Pull the horn pad, then unscrew the ground cable and take off the steering wheel and the column trim shroud. With an automatic transmission select the Park position for the selector lever and with a manual transmission select the reverse gear for the selector lever and set the ignition switch to RUN. Chuck a wire pin or a small drift punch ¼ inch (3 mm) diameter through the casting hole down to the middle of the Ignition Lock Cylinder housing. To take out the lock cylinder, one is required to press the wire pin while at the same time pulling it up. For installation the lock cylinder should be placed at the RUN position and the retaining pin should be pressed down before being placed as the cylinder into its housing with the interlocking washer. Twist the key until it reaches the off position so as to be able to advance the cylinder retaining pin to the hole at the cylinder housing. Activate the switch to ensure proper functioning by rotating the key through all positions and then the steering wheel, pad and column shroud were fitted and the battery ground connected.

    Q:
How do you replace Ignition Lock Cylinder on Mercury Capri? Posted by Customer
    A:
Loosen the bolt of negative terminal of battery and take out the negative cable. If you are carrying a tilt column then undo the upper extension shroud using the snap lock holding it in place. This is done by pulling off the steering column cover and identify the single key warning buzzer wire to pull out. Bring the key back to the Run position. Insert the 1/8-inch punch on the hole in the casting around the Ignition Lock Cylinder, apply force on the punch and at the same time apply pulling force on the Ignition Lock Cylinder, and Ignition Lock Cylinder can be removed from the column housing. When the Ignition Lock Cylinder is in the Run position, the release lever is engaged by using the punch and thus releasing the cylinder. To install the Ignition Lock Cylinder, turn the Ignition Lock Cylinder clockwise to the Run position and compressing the retaining pin, the Ignition Lock Cylinder is then inserted into the Ignition Lock Cylinder housing, making sure it is fully seated with the interlocking washer and after that turning the key anti-clockwise to the Off position to allow the retaining pin to pierce the hole. Spin the Ignition Lock Cylinder in order to check correct operation in every position and to finish the installation, turn back the above measures.
