These models are equipped with a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), or airbag, which is aimed at protecting the driver and the front passenger in case of a T-bonnet. This is made up of a steering wheel air bag module and an instrument panel foldable air bag module, while some models also come with side/curtain shield air bags for lateral impact, and the impact/organizer installed at the front car part. Subsequent generations may have pre-tensioners; they are explosives that tighten seat belts in the event of an accident. Some models should not have the front seat belt retractor assemblies pulled out because problems may cause the SRS warning light to appear. The airbag module is located in the steering wheel and it has both the airbag and the inflator unit, this inflates the bag in almost an instance when it receives an electrical impulse. But to put off the system, the wheels should be straight, ignition turned to LOCK, negative battery cable disconnected and it takes at least two minutes. It is preferred when an airbag module is being handled, it should be positioned in such a manner that the opening faces the outside, but it should in any case not be placed on a surface with the opening facing downwards. Measuring the resistance of SRS components must not be carried out and electric welding must not be done with the battery connected. In the event of a deployment of an airbag, the remaining airbags in the car have to be deactivated and taken back to a dealer for proper disposal.
