To remove the wiper motor and linkage, first disconnect the negative battery cable. Next, remove the wiper arms and release the cowl grille panel by prying off the caps and unscrewing the retaining screws; for 2005 and later models, the cowl grille is held by clips only, so start with the left panel. Unclip the small stay from the firewall and disconnect the wiper motor multi-plug. Unscrew the three mounting bolts securing the wiper motor and linkage to the firewall, then withdraw the assembly from the firewall. Unclip the cover from the wiper motor, mark the position of the motor arm on the mounting plate, and unscrew the center nut from the wiper motor spindle. Remove the three securing screws to separate the motor from the mounting plate. If the linkages need to be removed, use a flat-bladed screwdriver to lever the ball and sockets apart. The wiper arm spindles can be removed by unclipping the snap-ring, lifting off the washer, and sliding the spindle from the wiper linkage. For installation, reverse the removal procedure, ensuring to tighten the wiper motor mounting bolts to the specified torque, confirm that the wiper motor is in its 'parked' position before installing the motor arm, and check that the wiper linkage aligns with the motor arm. When installing the wiper motor and linkage to the firewall, ensure the rubber grommet is in place to locate the wiper motor, press the ball and sockets firmly together using pliers, and lubricate the wiper spindle and linkages with grease during reassembly.
