    To remove the oil pan, begin by raising the vehicle and securely supporting it on jackstands. For 1.5L and 1.6L engines, lift the engine cover off the ballstuds and remove it. Drain the engine oil and, for the same engine types, remove and discard the oil filter, then clean and install the engine oil drain plug. Next, remove the engine lower splash shield. For 2.0L models, take off the air conditioning compressor drive belt and remove the compressor mounting bolts, moving the compressor aside. On 1.5L engines, detach the charge air cooler coolant pump from the oil pan and remove the four oil pan-to-bellhousing bolts. For 2.0L, 2.3L, and 2.6L engines, remove the air filter housing and, if equipped with an automatic transaxle, take out the battery and battery tray. Slightly move the transaxle back from the engine while supporting the engine from above and the transaxle with a floor jack. Loosen the upper engine-to-transaxle mounting bolts and the left and right-side engine-to-bellhousing bolts. Remove the remaining oil pan-to-bellhousing bolts and the timing chain cover-to-oil pan fasteners, then pry between the engine and transaxle until the bellhousing separates from the block. Progressively unscrew the oil pan retaining bolts, using a rubber mallet to loosen the seal, and lower the oil pan carefully to avoid damage. For installation, clean and degrease the mating surfaces of the lower engine block and oil pan, applying a 1/8-inch wide bead of sealant to the oil pan flange. Install the oil pan bolts finger tight, then secure the timing chain cover-to-oil pan fasteners and tighten the oil pan-to-engine block bolts in a criss-cross pattern. Tighten the oil pan-to-bellhousing bolts and the transaxle to engine bolts evenly. Finally, lower the vehicle and allow the sealant to cure for at least 1 hour before refilling the engine with oil, trimming any excess sealant and installing a new oil filter.

Remove the transaxle roll restrictor mount through bolts and the mount itself, followed by the catalytic converter. Remove the three bellhousing-to-pan bolts and one oil pan-to-bellhousing bolt, along with the timing chain cover-to-oil pan fasteners. Detach the power steering hose bracket retaining nut and move the hose aside. Remove the air compressor without disconnecting the lines and tie it out of the way. Use a screwdriver to pry between the engine and transaxle until the bellhousing has moved away from the block to the limit of the loosened bolts. Unscrew the oil pan retaining bolts evenly until all are removed, then use a rubber mallet to loosen the oil pan seal and lower the oil pan, turning it as necessary to clear the exhaust system. Clean and degrease the mating surfaces of the lower engine block and oil pan, removing all traces of sealant. Apply a 1/8-inch wide bead of sealant to the oil pan flange, ensuring it is around the inside edge of the bolt holes and the front flange where it meets the timing chain cover, and install the oil pan bolts finger tight. Install the timing chain cover-to-oil pan fasteners and tighten them to the specified torque. Tighten the oil pan-to-engine block bolts in a circular pattern from the center outwards, then tighten the oil pan-to-bellhousing bolts and the transaxle to engine bolts evenly. Finally, lower the vehicle to the ground and wait at least 1 hour for the sealant to cure before refilling the engine with oil, trimming off any excess sealant and installing a new oil filter.

Remove the lower engine splash shield fasteners and splash shield, then the skid plate fasteners and plate if equipped. Detach the crossover and Y-pipe and converter assembly from the vehicle. For 3.0L engines, remove the catalytic converter support bracket fasteners and bracket, while for 3.5L engines, remove the nut and stud from the alternator. Slightly move the transaxle back from the engine, supporting the engine from above and the transaxle with a floor jack, then loosen the necessary mounting bolts. Caution is advised not to move the transaxle back more than 0.20 inch (5 mm) to avoid damage. For 3.5L engines, remove the transaxle roll restrictor mount through bolts and mount, then for All-Wheel Drive models, remove the right exhaust manifold-converter and the power transfer unit support bracket fasteners and bracket. Remove the air conditioning compressor without disconnecting the lines and take out the compressor stud from the oil pan side. Remove the driveplate inspection cover fasteners and cover, then for 3.5L engines, take out the upper and side bellhousing-to-engine bolts, the engine-to-bellhousing bolt, and the oil pan-to-bellhousing bolts, along with the timing chain cover-to-oil pan fasteners. Use a screwdriver to pry between the engine and transaxle until the bellhousing has moved away from the block to the limit of the loosened bolts. Remove the oil pan fasteners and the oil pan itself, noting the number of mounting bolts for different engine models. Clean the mating surfaces of the pan, engine, timing chain cover, and transaxle thoroughly to remove all traces of RTV sealant. For installation, apply a bead of RTV sealant at the necessary junctures and around the oil pan's mounting surface before installing the oil pan. Tighten the bolts in sequence to the specified torque, then install and tighten the pan-to-transmission bolts and all fasteners loosened earlier. Complete the installation by tightening all fasteners to the specified torque values, replacing any self-locking nuts disturbed during removal, filling the engine with fresh oil, and installing a new filter before starting the engine and checking for leaks.
