Some models are equipped with optional electrically-adjustable accelerator and brake pedals, with height adjusted by a switch located to the left of the steering column. This switch activates a reversible motor that increases or decreases the height of both pedals simultaneously via a pair of cables, driving worm gears inside the pedal assemblies that engage with teeth on the pedal posts, allowing movement forward and backward. Pressing the DOWN position on the switch moves the pedals away for more legroom, while the UP position brings them closer. The accelerator pedal features an Electronic Throttle Control module housing three Accelerator Pedal Position Sensors used by the Powertrain Control Module to manage the electronic throttle body. Although the pedals, posts, and mounting brackets are durable, the motor and drive cables may eventually malfunction, necessitating their replacement as a single assembly. The motor is located on the left upper part of the firewall above the pedal assemblies and, while difficult to access, is easy to remove with a flashlight. To begin, remove the knee bolster for better access and consider detaching the speed control deactivation switch from its mounting bracket at the upper end of the brake pedal. Disconnect the electrical connector from the top of the motor by depressing the release tab and pulling it off, then detach the right end of the motor from its mounting bracket by removing two bolts. Next, disconnect the drive cables from both the brake and accelerator pedals by pulling them out firmly. Remove the left motor mounting bolt and the two right mounting bolts to detach the motor and drive cable assembly. Installation follows the reverse order of removal.
