    Q:
How to remove and install the fuel pump on Ford F-250? Posted by Customer
    A:
If it is necessary to remove mechanical fuel pump on carbureted models, unplug the battery cable and place drain pan under. To eliminate leakage, shut off the end of inlet pipe and line. Then remove four screws that connect fuel pump with gasket. Clean surfaces in contact with each other. For replacement, use new one covered with RTV sealant, oil rocker arm of fuel pump, set up pump and tighten bolts. Reconnect lines, reconnect battery cable and start engine checking for leaks on electric fuel pump installed externally for 1987-1989 fuel injected models. Relieve pressure from the fuel system and disconnect battery cables if it's a problem of electric fuel pumps which are mounted externally to frame rails on right side for 1990-1993 models inclusive. To locate them along the left-side frame rail, first identify fuel pumps by their specific appearances. Remove mounting bolts, disconnect electrical connectors and fuel lines before removing these pumps.

    Q:
What is the position and function of the mechanical fuel pump in the Ford F-250? Posted by Customer
    A:
In the block or timing chain cover, the fuel pump is on the left front side. The rocker arm moves around due to the eccentric cam found on the camshaft. This forces the diaphragm inside to move against its spring and draw fuel into a pump chamber. Thereafter, fuel gets compressed for exit, thanks to check valves that prevent a backward flow. Make sure that you have gas in your tank, your fuel filter is not clogged, there are no leaks in mechanical connections and hoses before replacing a failed fuel pump. Take off your air cleaner assembly to test how well it pumps in air and unhook its fuel line at the inlet of an inwardly bent tube connected to the intake manifold of your carburetor. Check the fuel pump output. Carry out remote fuel supply tests if low.

    Q:
How to check the electric Fuel Pump on Ford F-250? Posted by Customer
    A:
In F-series and Bronco, three types of electric fuel pump configurations are available, those for Hot Fuel carbureted 7.5L engines have an in-tank low-pressure fuel pump controlled by a relay connected to a fuel pump switch that is triggered by the engine oil pressure switch and powered through an inertia switch. There is a pre-1990 model with early EFI system that consists of an externally mounted high-pressure pump and a low-pressure in-tank pump regulated by the fuel rail pressure regulator. 1990 models and beyond have the FDM (fuel delivery module) that houses various components such as a high-pressure fuel pump, venturi jet pump, relief check valves, and shuttle selector valve.
